What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a hands on healing modality that can be used for stress reduction, relaxation and to promote healing, balance and harmony.

The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word Rei, which means universal spiritual consciousness, and Ki, which means life force energy. Reiki is spiritually guided life force energy.

Reiki was re-discovered in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Dr. Mikao Usui after many years of study and meditation.

Reiki never causes harm and can be worked with in any situation.

What is a Reiki session like?

Sessions begin with a brief form and a consultation. After the formalities, you, the client, are lying comfortably, fully clothed, while the practitioner places her hands in various positions on or above you, acting as a channel for the Reiki. If you are receiving a distance session, you will still lie down and relax while the practitioner sends you Reiki from a distance.

During sessions clients often experience a deep feeling of relaxation and warmth. However what one experiences during a Reiki treatment varies somewhat from person to person. Some people drift off to sleep or have visions and other mystical experiences. Some people feel very little at all, but the Reiki is still working at more subtle levels. At the end of the treatment, the client feels refreshed with a more positive, balanced outlook.
